Lauren’s beautiful sculptures are currently for sale at the Jah Roc Galleries in Margaret River.
Born in England and moved to Australia when she was only 6 years old. Her fascination in construction started very early. Lauren studied fine art majoring in Sculpture and printmaking and then went on to study ceramics.
She has a passion for the human form and creates busts made out of clay. She uses moulds, patterns, overlays and her process is very technical, every piece that she creates is unique. She loves to experiment and usually has a number of pieces being worked on at the same time.
Lauren has noticed that her artwork is taking on new directions and she is not afraid to push the boundaries to see what she is capable of achieving.
Her female busts have wings and go through a transgression of life almost like the life-cycle of a butterfly but for her it is about human strength and inner beauty. The female forms begin by having wings made of leather/metal attached to them as though they are wearing them like armour. As the busts become more evolved the wings become less man-made material and more part of the human body.
From the front of the bust you may not even notice a set of wings on her
back, but as you walk slowly around the sculpture, the wings almost mystically appear. Just beautiful, elegant and incredible powerful.
Lauren is also a jewellery maker. Her pieces are elegant necklaces and earrings made from colourful beads and all carefully hand-made. Enjoy our interview with her below :-
